Has anybody else had problems with their plates flattening and cracking at the edges? I just got my letterpress and have 2 plates that probably won't work again. I don't have any packing sheets in, just the letterpress tool, plate and card. The plates would still print but it is impossible to get a nice even coat of paint on them because the edges are squished down. Any advice would be appreciated!

I was at my LSS today and they just got the Letterpress in and are sending them all back because they tested a couple and the printing plates were all cracking and the emboss was not very deep. |

I contacted the store where I bought mine and they said that there were some bad batches of plates and that they happened to get some of them. They ordered me replacement plates that came with the kit which should be in today so I will let you know.... I also bought a set of plates to use in the meantime and they too cracked! So I contacted Quickutz and they are mailing me a new set. They said it was an isolated problem so I shouldn't have problems in the future but at this point I will believe it when I see it since I had 2 separate sets that were bad (although they were purchased at the same store). I will let you know how it turns out because if they work right then this product is really great!

So the QK rep had my LSS replace the whole letterpress kit (without the epic six, I bought it separate) because they thought it might be bad. So I went tonight to swap them out and sure enough, these plates do the same thing....crack and flatten with 1-2 uses so I think the whole thing and plates will all go back.

I finally figured out what was wrong with my letterpress thanks to one of the employees at my LSS....the Epic was bad. I ended up taking it back and using the Sizzix Big Shot and it worked much better. The plates still flatten a little bit and 1 of them did still crack but it is so much better than before. I would still consider the plates "semi disposable" though because you won't be able to use them forever since they flatten a little with use. Here is a good review of the product with pictures of the cracked plates: http://papercrave.com/l-letterpress-review-update-with-preliminary-custom-plate-results/ |
